Which drug can cause Spontaneous Tedon Rupture?
I have finally found a bit of time to update the blog. I was off to a torrid pace but the duty of work and family must take priority over my blog. However, it has given me a chance to take some notes on some interesting things I have learned over the past month. Starting with a drug with the common side effect of spontaneous tendon rupture. In more common terms, torn muscle tendons that happen randomly for no particular reason. The drug is ciprofloxacin, which most people known as Cipro. The first time I heard about Cipro was as the first...

I feel lucky that I was able to get in so many blog posts already for 2010, as my time and energy levels have been dwindling since Maggie arrived. I realized today that it has been a month or so since my initial Shout Out to Queen Anne Businesses, which I still intend to do on a weekly basis. This week the Seattle business on Queen Anne Hill I want to give a shout out to is Stuhlbergs. It seems like yesterday when Megan Stuhlberg first opened her store, but it has actually been on Upper Queen Anne since 2002. I remember this exactly, since...
read moreVideo: Chiropractic and Reducing Blood Pressure
Chiropractors have known about the connection between subluxations and blood pressure for many years, but people continue to be in prescription medications for this diagnosis. This video does a fantastic job explaining and illustrating the important connection between the nervous system, high blood pressure, and the effect a chiropractic adjustment can have in reducing the symptoms naturally. Even though I don’t always love the seeing a medical doctor giving his opinion on the effects of chiropractic, as it seems to be a way of...
read moreThe Biggest Health Care Lies in America by Mike Adams
Mike Adams, of The Natural News, is becoming one of my favorite sources for original, succinct, health articles. This most recent article is one that broaches a variety of subjects from vaccines to personal health accountability. The 10 Biggest Health Care Lies in America, is to the point, and professes much of what every chiropractor I pay attention to has been saying for years. Many of his points are based around the tenets of chiropractic philosophy. One of my favorites: Lie #2) Pharmaceuticals prevent disease The big push by Big Pharma...

Boy I was going good for a while, but will have to restart the progress in the P90X Seattle Chiropractor Challange on Monday, at the earliest. I remember being, what I recognize now, an extremely overconfident 18 year old, at home on the couch wondering why everyone doesn’t take that midday 3 hour break to workout, eat, sleep, and watch television. Fast forward to the present, being a full time chiropractor and dad, I am reminded everyday that it takes serious commitment and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle on top of the regular...
read moreDrugs to Prevent Bone Loss Have Serious Side Effects
If you are a regular reader of this blog, it will come as no surprise that I have distrust for most drugs. It is my opinion, as with other chiropractors, that the healthiest body functions without drugs and surgery. A prime example of this are drugs that were considered wondrous just a few years ago to prevent osteoporosis and bone loss. The name brand that comes to mind is Fosamax. An article published on Naturalnews.com reviews some of the serious side effects that were known and became known when using bisphosphonate drugs. In 874...

I finally found a chance to write a little about our second home birth experience, and even have a few photos to share. We didn’t take as many pictures as we did last time, but since they speak 1000 words, everyone should be all set. Since the birth truly went off without a hitch, the biggest surprise of the day was me coming home early, before the end of the Canucks playoff game. Arriving home at 8pm was far superior to possibly getting home at midnight, a little after the first contractions and just prior to our midwife...

A great post today on Chiro.org, visits a recent study that showed a trend in injury prevention to athletes under chiropractic care. The study compares the chiropractic group to a group under the same care and conditions sans chiropractic. Hoskins and Pollard used two groups of male semi elite Australian Rules football athletes, matched them in several ways and randomly placed them in one of two arms of the study. All received the usual and customary management and medical care. Half also received chiropractic care which consisted of both...

Well, since Thursday I have only been able to get in one day of exercise. That was a few hours of playing street hocket on Saturday afternoon. The best thing is, I am feeling great while playing, and the best is still to come. I am quite sore still the next day, but I feel it might have more to do with my hydration levels, and possibly lacking some supplementation and protein intake. With our daughter now here, it is understandable that I have taken my eye off of one prize, and focused it on my family. In regards to exercise, it really...

Kate, Gordon, and I welcomed the newest addition to our family this weekend. On 04/18/2010 at 3:34am, Maggie Elizabeth Elsie Gibson was born at our home, and the process was flawless, although tiresome. Kate felt her first contractions at approximately 10:30pm, we called our midwife at 12:30am. She arrived at 1:00am, and Maggie was here just a couple of hours later. We were set on the name Maggie Elizabeth, and had considered the name Elsie, as it was a choice made by Gordon a few months ago. When we told him the name this morning when he...
