Writing a blog that’s attached to your name and business doesn’t seem all that harrowing, but it has been a concern of mine since I started the blog up again. Should my blog be all chiropractic all the time? Should it only be about being a Seattle chiropractor? Since my interests as a chiropractor span into nutrition, exercise, health, and wellness, I am choosing to delve into other areas that I believe are important to our health.
In this particular blog post, I have created the Pharm FAIL category. It is self explanatory, and usually involves something that supposedly seemed like a good idea at the time, but we learned later it was a complete failure.
We have a special treat for our first Pharm FAIL, since it happens to be a video. The concept of drinking water, or all water sources, being contaminated with pharmaceutical drugs is not new to me.
A patient of ours who happened to be a scientist/researcher at the EPA spoke about this very issue back in 2003. Her concern was the fact that the EPA’s budget was being slashed, and there was absolutely zero testing being done for the poisoning of water due to pharmaceutical drugs being passed by people into our ecosystem.
In 2008 I read about scientists finding this same problem in British drinking water, and had a bit of a laugh as our U.S. news coverage reported it with the idea that our system had this under control. The media will most likely play this off as the amounts found of this pharmaceutical mixture is so DILUTE, that it poses no risk to our health. I truly hope nobody believes this.
It has also put some questions into my mind regarding homeopathy, as their concept of introducing extremely dilute amounts of a substance to the body(I believe through the memory of water) can have a major health impact on our body.
I am not here to dispute this idea, but if this concept works, we are all currently self medicating just by drinking our water.
