I can safely say that all of the Seattle chiropractors I know do not look to the Coca-Cola Corporation for health advice, nor do we recommend it as a sound nutritional product. I may even go out on a limb and say every chiropractor would agree with this. I also think we would be angry if a national chiropractic association joined forces with a company that is actually hurting people.
Walter Willett from Harvard University has made the perfect observation:
“Coca-Cola, like other sodas, causes enormous suffering and premature death by increasing the risks of obesity, diabetes, heart attacks, gout, and cavities,” said Walter Willett of Harvard University. “[The academy] should be a loud critic of these products and practices, but by signing with Coke their voice has almost surely been muzzled.”
These hypocritical sponsorships should come as no surprise as they can be linked back to Physicians promoting smoking in The New England Journal of Medicine, and have obviously been continuing to this day.
It will be fun to see what sponsorship campaigns the duo come up with in support of “good health”. It has never been clearer that proper nutrition has taken a back seat to the almighty dollar.
Just maybe they have their eyes set on making 80% of our population obese by 2015, or maybe they just care how much soda we spend out money on.
